JLL arranges three retail leases at popular Blackhawk Plaza in Danville, CA, rounding out open-air center’s thriving mix

JLL announced today arranging three leases at Blackhawk Plaza, an approximately 250,000 square-foot open-air retail center in Danville, CA, serving the well-heeled suburbs east of San Francisco along the I-680 corridor. The new tenants include Combat Sports Academy taking approximately 26,600 square feet of space, Apple Cinemas taking 26,200 square feet, and health-wellness business Osteostrong taking 1,530 square feet. All three are poised to open in 2024.

Blackhawk Plaza, acquired in 2020 by Newport Beach, CA-based Ramanujan Group, is located adjacent to the Blackhawk Country Club and is close to other exclusive housing communities amid rolling hills and scenic vistas surrounding nearby Mount Diablo. It offers a gathering place for dining, shopping, special events and entertainment including the renowned Smithsonian-affiliated Blackhawk Automotive and Cultural Museum.

JLL represented the landlord in the three transactions, and represented Combat Sports Academy with their lease as well. Other recent entertainment and services tenants to lease at Blackhawk Plaza include Gameday VR, Starbunni Arcade and Posh Nail Bar.

“Apple Cinemas, Combat Sports Academy and Osteostrong are great complements to the existing retail mix at Blackhawk Plaza, which includes a strong grocer-anchor, Draeger’s, and more than 40 other shops and businesses,” said JLL’s Jeff Badstubner, Managing Director, Retail Advisory.

Apple Cinemas’ Danville space will be its first California location, expanding from successful properties in Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and upstate New York. The growing first-run and blockbuster-movie purveyor is expected to echo some of the features of Apple Cinemas’ properties on the East Coast that include luxury seating, advanced 4k projection screen with Dolby ATMOS sound and the ability to “order pub-style food right from your seat.”

Combat Sports Academy offers training and fitness in Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and CrossFit for men and women, as well as age-appropriate programs for kids.

Blackhawk Plaza combines village-style Mediterranean architecture within an aquatic landscaped interior with welcoming, terraced vistas that attract both tourists and neighborhood residents.
