McDermott establishes new office in Energy Corridor

HOUSTON, Apr. 17, 2025 – JLL today announced McDermott, a leading provider of engineering and construction solutions for the energy industry, has signed a 50,498-square-foot lease for new offices at Westgate II in Houston’s Energy Corridor. The company will bring 254 employees to its new space, located on the top floor of the office building. JLL Managing Director Tyler Garrett and Senior Associate Christian Canion handled leasing and marketing at Westgate II on behalf of the landlord.
Founded in 1923, McDermott has long been a pillar of Houston’s business community, serving the energy industry and specializing in offshore and onshore projects. The firm operates in over 54 countries and has more than 30,000 employees. The addition of Westgate II to its already established project-focused space in Energy Center 5 shows the value McDermott puts on its position within the Energy Corridor, where the company benefits from proximity to esteemed clients and partners.
McDermott’s office at Westgate II will feature 162 workstations, 66 offices, two large breakrooms and ten conference rooms. As a part of the company’s mission to create a collaborative, inclusive environment for its employees, the space will also include a wellness room, coffee coves and collaboration spaces to inspire teamwork and increase functionality.

In the heart of Houston’s highly sought-after Energy Corridor, Westgate II is located just off Interstate 10 and surrounded by a variety of local favorites, such as Lupe Tortilla, Willie’s Grill & Icehouse and Lomonte’s Italian Restaurant and Bar, among others. Nearby grocery stores include HEB, Randall’s and Walmart, while Terry Hershey Park Hike & Bike Trail and George Bush Park provide employees with convenient natural amenities.

A recent JLL research report analyzing Houston office leasing trends revealed the energy and utilities sectors have driven the majority of leasing activity in the market for the last decade, even seeing a 6% increase from the first half of the decade to the last. Similarly, the Katy Freeway West submarket is second only to the CBD in terms of where leasing activity is concentrated, as tenants continue to migrate to Houston’s westside. McDermott’s lease at Westgate II is evidence of continued demand in the area, driven by nearby amenities and abundance of Class-A properties.
