NEW YORK, March 31, 2025 –JLL announced today that Peter Riguardi, Chairman and President, New York Region, is serving as chairperson for the 2024-25 American Heart Association (AHA) New York City Heart Challenge™, a community campaign focused on engaging local companies, corporations and their employees to join the fight against heart disease and stroke.
“I am honored to serve as chair of the 2025 New York City Heart Challenge. I hope to bring greater awareness to the devastating effects of cardiovascular disease and contribute to positive changes that will help my community live longer, healthier lives,” said Riguardi.
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in New York City and JLL’s participation will be a crucial part of the AHA’s Nation of Lifesavers™ initiative, a national effort aimed at doubling cardiac arrest survival rates by 2030. The goal is to create a nation of lifesavers capable of delivering high-quality CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED), while raising awareness of life-saving early detection and post-surgery recovery management.
As chair of the NYC Heart Challenge™, Riguardi has already recruited companies and organizations to take part in various initiatives, including the Wall Street Run & Heart Walk®, New York City CycleNation™, and Executives with Heart. The initiatives are aimed at raising funds for the AHA while leading action-oriented conversations about employee health, corporate engagement, community health and community transformation.
JLL employees have rallied behind the effort, organizing bi-weekly office fundraisers and hosting CPR training. Through its employee matching gift program, JLL will double funds raised by full-time employees for the AHA.
On March 25, Keith Piro, Director of Workplace Experience, captained a JLL team that took part in CycleNation at 660 Fifth Ave. raising a remarkable $68,087 for stroke awareness.
Piro – who has a personal connection to the AHA after his mom suffered a stroke - has previously participated in the fundraising initiative that uses cycling (road bikes, stationary bikes, spin classes, etc.) to raise money and promote brain and heart health.
The wildly popular AHA Wall Street Run & Heart Walk will take place in Downtown Manhattan on May 15 with hundreds of JLLers participating as part of an effort to raise a further $100,000. Said Riguardi, “I am deeply humbled by the generous support of every single JLL team member – many of whom have been personally impacted by the trauma of heart disease or stroke – as we work with the AHA to save lives in New York City. We envision a future where at least one person in every household and colleagues in every business know CPR.”
JLL will also participate in the 2025 Heart of New York City Gala on June 10. The annual celebratory event will honor survivors, patrons and volunteers of the AHA and feature stories from survivors, including JLL Vice Chairman and former collegiate athlete Alexander Chudnoff, who at the age of 36, while traveling in France, discovered that he was born with a congenital heart defect in the midst of having a cardiac event, and has successfully undergone two major surgeries since.
“The gala will be a celebration of our collective success and an opportunity for us to thank champions like Peter Riguardi who share our vision for better health for everyone, everywhere,” said Mark Hurley VP, Marketing Communications, NYC, American Heart Association. “Throughout our campaign, we celebrate our milestones, we thank our sponsors, and we honor our heroes as we come together to achieve something bigger than ourselves.”
